Mossberg 500 Review

Once the redheaded step-child of the shotgun world, the Mossberg 500 series has become one of the best-selling shotgun lines.  Favored by shooters for the low price and high quality, the Mossberg 500 series has become a staple in the shooting arena. Released in 1960 by O.F. Mossberg & Sons, the Mossberg 500 was designed for the harsh environments encountered while hunting waterfowl.

Action

The Mossberg shotguns are pump action, hammerless, magazine tube feed, and come with dual action bars.  The shotguns have a tang safety located on the top of the receiver.  Available in multiple configurations and finishes, the Mossberg 500 has a setup to meet any need.  The Mossberg Shotguns are available in 12 gauge, 20 gauge, and .410 bore.  The 12 gauge is the most popular chambering and has the most features available.

Military Use

The US military saw the reliable function and quickly ordered the Mossberg for testing.   The Mossberg 500 has been used by the US Military since 1961.  Currently the use of the 590A1 is declining in use in favor of the Benelli Semi-Auto configuration.
