Ruger's American made SR9 offers a cutting edge, lightweight 9mm pistol that has received positive reviews. I bought one of these from a local gun show for roughly the same price. I love every bit of it. I use it for defense, as well as shooting at the range. Out of at least 1500 rounds fired, I have only had a few jams, (first month or so, 200 rounds). Paired with a Viridian green laser and some Novak night sights, this is the perfect match for me. The loaded indicator on top makes it much easier to see if it is loaded, and doesn't interfere with the sights at all. The reversible back strap is nice, and the trigger and external safeties are excellent. Compared to a Glock, this seems to be lighter, thinner, and less felt recoil (compared to my Glock anyway).
