Details

Since it's founding in 1852, Smith & Wesson have been leaders in innovative firearm technology and continue to this day. Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson's early partnership supplied the U.S. calvary with their early Model 3 American revolver and to this day are a leading supplier for the United States military with a reputation for quality and performance.

The Sigma features an accurate 4" matte finish Stainless Steel slide and barrel with an 18 degree "natural-point grip angle" designed to be a natural extension of your hand making your point of aim ring true. The sigma features no safety to help reduce the chances of it snagging on clothing during the draw and is equipped with a heavier than average trigger pull to reduce the chance of an accidental discharge.

This striker-fired pistol comes with an equipment rail for tactical lights making it an ideal gun for self defense or tactical training.

Old reliable - Review by ShooterX

I have owned my sigma 40VE since 2007 and have never had a malfunction that was the guns fault (a couple of light reloads caused stove pipes). This pistol has swallowed every type of ammo I have shoveled into it. It has taken reloads, high end and low end ammo without any problems. I even ran it for about 1000 rounds without cleaning to see what it would do. It NEVER quit. I liked it so much that I used it (without modification) for steel challenge matches and again it performed flawlessly. I'm not a pro, but I'm no slouch either, this pistol kept me in the top 3 most weekends and even a win or two. If I had to chose one pistol (in my collection) to keep and send the others away, I would choose my Sigma every time. Don't let the "Glock knock-off" crowd scare you away from a very reliable, very affordable, and all around great performing pistol. Get yourself a Sigma and a couple boxes of ammo and have a blast. the performance of the gun - Review by REDBONE

I bought the 40VE in 2008. I bought the gun for personel protection. The Smith name is the reason I got this gun instead of glock. I love this pistol. I have had no complaints with the gun while shooting at home or in the woods. I added some paint to the sights to make it glow so if i have to shoot at night I can still see the sights. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ACCURACY UNTIL I WENT ON YOUTUBE AND THEY SHOWED HOW TO REMOVE THE EXTRA SPRING IN THE TRIGGER TO CHANGE THE TRIGGER PULL FROM 17 LBS. TO 3 LBS. HUGE DIFFERENCE IN ACCURACY. DONE AFTER THE GLOCK/S&W SETTLEMENT. (Posted on 9/13/11)
Good First time shooter - Review by Jordan

I bought the SW40VE brand new in Dec. of 2008, came with 2 clips, case, lock, fired casing, and manual. I had never owned a handgun and was really anxious to go and shoot it, Shot great right out of the box. For the first 6 months i was very pleased with it, no FTF or FTE, shot flawlessly the entire time i had the gun. The only issue i had was the inaccuracy of the gun, which i didn't really take notice of until that summer. It was embarrasing to shoot around others at a range or out back at the house, it threw rounds in a pattern covering the entire paper target(10.5"x12") from about 7 yds(21 ft) I tried and tried but the gun was just horribly inconsistent with putting the bullet where i wanted. I've let others shoot it and they have the same results, i have a XD40, M&P 357sig, 2 RIA 1911's, LCP, a Judge, and a 357 mag revolver and i have no problem shooting them. Even my LCP can smack my plinger at 25yds and further. I've read many good reviews about the SW40VE and the 9VE, so this leads me to think i may have got a bad one. Smith has a reputation for being great firearms and i've bought a Smith AR and an M&P since owning the sigma, so i still believe in them, there always going to be a bad apple. For the price of the gun it is definately worth it just to keep next to your bed, if nothing else. I probably wouldn't buy one again just because once you own a M&P pistol, all the other Smith pistols are obsolete, but i would recommend it to a first time shooter as a great gun to kick around and abuse.
